Over the weekend I gave the Gardein pockets their day in court. Joining me was my vegan husband and my veg-curious bff.
The three of us waxed on, like a group of stoners, delighting in the heft of each pocket and how densely they were filled. The meatless meat textures/flavors were startlingly authentic, as were the sauces that perfectly complimented them.
The memory of the flavor enhancing spices literally has me salivating right now and I can’t stop daydreaming about the crusts. Uhhh…so flakey and butterlicious. These are a gateway drug for that person in your life that scoffs at vegan food.
MEATLESS PEPPERONI PIZZA ~
Typically vegan pepperoni gives me heartburn, and I’m thrilled to report, that did not happen with these! The vegan mozzarella was delicious and creamy. The marinara was flavorful without overpowering the pepperoni, which clearly was the star ingredient.
BBQ PULLED PORKLESS SHREDS IN A TANGY SAUCE ~
My husband and bff were blown away by the authentic stringy texture of the pulled pork. I’ve never had the non-vegan version, but it did pleasantly remind me of jackfruit. The sauce was rich, smokey and tangy.
ITALIAN MEATLESS SAUSAGE W/ ROASTED RED PEPPERS & SPINACH ~
Jeez Louise! These are reminiscent of a stromboli or a sausage sub from an authentic Italian restaurant. The roasted red peppers and spinach held their own while supporting the sausage as the headliner. The sauce held notes of an old world Sunday gravy that had been slow-cooking all afternoon under the loving eye of an intuitive cook.
