VEGAN REVIEW: Field Roast Apple Maple Breakfast Sausage

In my pre-veg days I never liked sausage but everything Field Roast touches manifests into Vegan Gold.  Since I love imagining myself as a Vermonter, I’m always one purchase away from buying something with maple in it.

Like all of Field Roast’s products, the texture is dense yet pillowy, crumbly yet hearty and chewy yet tender.

I often enjoy a few links on weekday mornings with my coffee and blackberries.  I heat them in the toaster oven on 375ºF for 7 minutes, closing my eyes to breathe in the sweet, bready, mapley scent, as it fills the still kitchen.  They heat well under these conditions and are unbelievably delicious.

For our most recent glamping trip, we decided to take a packet along to grill.  We laid out foil with a light coating of Earth Balance Soy-Free Buttery Spread.  The addition of the grill, hash-brown patties and the misty mountain air only further enhanced the full-bodied aromatic flavors.

Eat them slowly and be present as your tongue encounters warm bits of Washington apples and light notes of maple.  This is an item that even you maple-haters will enjoy, as the flavor is in the background lending complexity and a woody sweetness.
